Introduction
Diamonds are one of the most important natural materials on Earth. Created over millions years ago, rough diamonds are shaped and polished into beautiful, highly valuable gems by teams of people with a genuine passion for crafting beauty.
The two lesson packs, in primary and secondary versions, form a simple introduction to diamonds, their structure, formation, mining, sorting, polishing and distribution. The packs also emphasise the importance of people in every stage of the ‘diamond trail’ and some of the interesting ways De Beers is supporting the communities around the world where its mining and other value adding activities are crucial to well being and long term development.
